A Series of Confinement

This work is an interrogation of the often conflicting desires to both belong to and break free from social categories or labels. Through a series of sequential self-portrait photographs stitched together into moving images, I examine the tensions between corporeal boundaries and the boundaries of societal norms.

The moving images are projected onto prefabricated objects that are further divided internally into square, rectangle or L-shaped sections. Each object is found second-hand and then repurposed as a projection surface through various modifications, such as attaching drawing paper or other projection material. Each projection is specific to the object and consists of individual moving images projected within a single video channel, telling their own story while interacting with one another within and without the object’s internal and external confinements.

The project currently consist of two installments, titled I & II. Each of the sequences are uniquely tailored to the found object.
